8 Social Media Strategy Trends That Dominated 2018

Social Media Strategy

Social Media Strategy Trends In 2018.

Social Media Strategy is changing after 2018 revealed many changes.

In late 2016 Facebook turned the tables on Snapchat with it’s release of stories to Instagram.

Since then, Instagram’s algorithm changes resemble the same tragic cut to organic reach on Facebook.

With 2018 creeping past us, you can be sure of one thing…

Social Media continues to evolve.

1. AR, VR & User Experiences

The rise of AR & VR experience continues with the iPhone X offering Augemented Reality Experience as an inbuilt feature.

As the tech of the future gains momentum it’s popularity will eventually see features being incorporated into social media strategy.

2. Instagram Story Takeover

The Instagram Storie feature has been the death of Snapchat by comparative standards. While 50 Million users still enjoy the Snapchat platform, Instagram has put a cog in the wheel of Snapchats rising success.

IG Stories is just over 12 months old.

Over 200 million people use the Storie feature each month.

Brands looking to connect with users can take advantage of the “Swipe Up” feature but more importantly, Instagram is now implementing store features and it’s own payment platform.

Marketers know one of their biggest challenges is getting a user to leave the platform in order to make a conversion. This will no longer be necessary with the new changes.

The pending introduction of these features have already been regarded as a “game changer” amid discussions between leading social media strategy providers.

3. Influencer Market – Should You Invest?

Despite social media algorithms strangulating organic reach, Influencer Marketing is still alive and kicking.

Influencer Marketing offers flexible campaigns, including contra deals which a lot of smaller influencers with high engagement are happy to accept.

Influencer Marketing offers a different style of audience connection than traditional advertisement. Utilising an influencer to market your product is also considered as endorsement, which can carry a brands message a long way.

With platforms like Tribe experiencing a huge amount of growth, Influencer marketing is still regarded as a successful social media strategy for both branding and sales.

4. Gen Z Are Becoming Your Customers

Millennials are now the biggest working generation while many Baby Boomers are hitting retirement age.

Gen Z has grown up with new age technology readily available.

They are quick on the pulse of popular culture and trends move faster than ever.

Marketers are starting to market differently in order to appeal to the Gen Z culture now that a good percentage of this audience manages their own finances.

5. Messaging Bots, Paving The Way For AI

Generally speaking a bot is any software that performs an automated task.

With messaging bot platforms like ManyChat, the process of funnelling a customer to a product source or supplying them information is easier.

The applications are becoming smarter, with AI being introduced.

Conversational ChatBots are already being rolled out in the online marketplace.

The real question is, will the AI bots of the future have the potential to automate even more for your business?

My opinion is yes. So start learning the basics now.

6. Live Streaming Isn’t Just A Fad

Live Streaming is a valuable part of a brands social media strategy. More  business owners have utilised the live streaming feature as a regular way to promote their products on Facebook.

Live Streaming is a way for a brand to soften the lines of traditional ads and connect with an audience on a personal level.

7. Twitter Is Dead….However

Twitter has been left for dead….however….

Don’t give up just yet. Keep your toe in the water, especially if you have a brand which aligns well with the Twittersphere.

If Twitter sells and the social media platform does turnaround (I know, it will take some innovative features never done before)….

You will wish you had of at least made an account before the changes. Secure your business names, even if you don’t actively use the service.

8. Facebook Groups & Tight Communities

Facebook Groups enjoyed a massive boost in 2017.

Groups didn’t get completely battered by Facebooks algorithm until early 2018. They still are an easier method to achieve growth than a Facebook Page.

You won’t see many corporate brands jump on the group bandwagon. This is great for the small business owners as groups remain unsaturated by huge players in the game.

If you have great content and value to offer, you can achieve an intense amount of growth using Facebook groups.

Facebook Groups are not over and will still be relative to your 2019 Social Media strategy.

Give your community a group they can’t live without.

What Does All Of This Mean For Internet & Social Media Strategy?

VR, AI….Chat Bots. Algorithm changes…It’s a lot to take in.

You don’t have to do all of it, but you should have a key focus in a couple of areas.

If you look at the big names in social media, you will see a common factor between them.

They were all there on the pulse when the next big thing blew up.

Repurpose Your Content!

Repurpose ONE Image Using ONE Simple Process.

To repurpose your images you need to know two skills.

  1. How To Create An Image
  2. How to Reupload/Resize Images

If you do not have those skills, learn them before you even fill your brain with what I’m about to show you.

You can follow a basic tutorial HERE.

The ONE simple process you need to repurpose your image content is to Reupload/Resize.

This is all you are doing here unless you choose to edit/add things**

You are just repeating this for the different sizes you create.

Repurpose ONE Image several times.

Step 1:

We started with a Facebook Post.

This was a cute recipe name brought up by a member in the group FREE Essential Oils Social Media Images.

 Step 2:

Using Magic Resize* in Canva, this was then turned into an Instagram Post.

Tip: To make this easy to read, condense your text by doing things like replacing “and” with “&” and “Minutes to “Mins”

Step 3:

Using Canva, Open up a Pinterest Size Template or your preferable Pin Size.

Reupload your Instagram image onto a Pin, Edit around the rest.

Alternatively you can just make a new pin – but why take the extra time?

Step 4:

Using Everything you now have, Whip up a blog post. Upload or Embed the images you already have.

Step 5:

Pin your blog post to Pinterest. If it is a recipe or helpful tip, share it in groups that allow this.

This is where your repurpose adventure may end, however – look where this took me…You are here right now!

Here are my personal steps from here….

Step 6: Using all of the above images, create an image on “how to repurpose images”.

Step 7: Write a blog post, upload this image – this is where we are now.

Step 8: Create a Pin for the Blog post & create optional extra FB & Instagram images to promote blog post.

Look How I Repurpose ONE Image Into So MANY Different Pieces Of Content

  • Several pieces of content for social media.
  • Two different blog posts (One Essential Oil Recipe & One “How To” digital resource).
  • Pinterest Pins to produce traffic .
  • Printable Images for cute flyers and cards.
  • Extras: You can even make GIFS and Videos with your images
  • Extras….So many more possibilities, but Ill leave it here for now.

*For Canva NON-Premium Members, Instead of using RESIZE, Just download and Reupload your image into the size you are after.

** A beginner can certainly get away with creating images by just reuploading/resizing – ONE SIMPLE PROCESS ON REPEAT.

If you are intermediate, you may want to edit and add things based on the platform – as you can see in some of my variations here.

Stop Feeling Shamed For Putting A Price On Your Knowledge

Stop Feeling Shamed For Putting A Price On Your Knowledge

One minute you are putting out loads of content, showing others how to build up their business.

Next minute, you can’t get out of bed.

You can’t focus, you seem irritated and the fire has gone from your belly.

What happened?

You Thought You Could Be a Hero Is What Happened.

It’s quite simple, you overdelivered and received nothing in return.

Sure, you got praise.

Sure, your team thinks you are a hero.

Sure, you are getting a little raise in product commission.

But that doesn’t fix the absolute mental drain you are now suffering.

Trust me, I know this back to front.

Which is why I have a balance of FREE content and PAID content.

I know how to look after myself, and other people.

Charge If You Have Something That Will Make Others Money.

People are happy to pay premium memberships for services like Canva, Tailwind, Mailchimp.

All of these different tools help a business make money.

Why should you miss out when you are providing the same service?

Often it’s far more personal and will jumpstart a persons business overnight if they utilise your products properly.

There is NO SHAME in putting a price on your knowledge.

Let’s say you dragged your ass through mud for 15 years to gain the insights you have.

Why should you be shamed for not parting everything with a freshman?

The work, tears, fear, heartache , nights up late….for what?

Of course if you create something that will help someone else skip all of that – you deserve to be paid!

There is no shame, you should be proud you came out with something to offer.

We Need To Stop.

Stop the shaming. I get it, theres a lot of lame guru stuff going around at the moment.

But please, not everybody is looking for a quick buck.

Nobody is forcing anybody to buy anything.

We all have a product to sell, it just varies.

How To Format Your Instagram Stories So They Look Amazing!

Getting Your Instagram Stories To Look Right.

Instagram Stories are a great way to provide a “Daily Digest” of your life, without constantly posting on your main feed.

This is a tip for users who are doing Instagram Stories on a bit of a whim, only relying on your phone. Got a great picture, but it just doesn’t quite fit? Easy fixed.

Using Snapseed’s expand tool provides a way to size up your instagram stories so they fit neatly.

There are “Instagram Story” apps you can use however most creators already have Snapseed on their phone.

For video users, Storeo is another tool I use. Record your story in one hit, and let Storeo chop it up and upload in order.

Those awkward moments when you run out of time while talking are taken care of with Storeo.

If you are REALLY serious about high quality branded content on Stories, you can jump on your desktop and generate high quality graphics using Pic Monkey, Canva or Photoshop.

I find the easiest way is to drag them straight to the dropbox off the desktop and that way, I can access the story graphics anytime on my phone.

Is There A Dark Side Of Doterra

Is There a Darkside Of DoTERRA?

Before committing to joining Doterra as an advocate I researched the good side and the dark side of Doterra.

I’m Kate Shelby. When I became a Doterra distributor in 2017….

I came to the conclusion that like all MLM Companies, there will always be someone who left Doterra angrily because they invested a lot of money and came out with nothing.

ANY and ALL business takes hard work.

In my business experience the only time I haven’t had success is when I have given up or have lost a passion for what I am doing.

All I could find were pissed off people who made the wrong choices in their business and failed.

While I consider failure a bit of a dirty word, when you carry around resentment and anger because your business didn’t take off – it applies.

It’s Not Just In Network Marketing, Its Business.

I knew someone who opened a coffee shop in the middle of the depression, in a town with minimal population.

He went broke within 6 months. He tells people he had no idea about the depression, because his newspapers weren’t being delivered properly.

People will always find someone to blame.

Schemes & Health Claims

Yesterday I saw someone call Doterra a scheme and quote “Essential oils should never be ingested.”

Well, Essential Oils have been ingested well before Doterra came along.

Like all things, don’t overdo it.

I’m sure this person is happy to ingest canola oil on a daily basis though.

Like ANY Network Marketing company, Doterra can’t control every little thing advocates say.

Because of this, it gets a real bashing over the things rogue marketers say or do using the brands name.

I wish people were just as outraged over more important things, like the irresponsible statements made by politicians….

You won’t find a single network marketing company without a “dark side”

Amway, Avon, Tupperware, It Works – They all have misguided reps with sales tactics that annoy people.

Network Marketing is competitive – because so many people do it – so its bound to have some dark stories.

You know what else is annoying? Pushy Car Salesmen – but you will hear less about those because its not an MLM.

The Doterra Product – Lets Focus on that.

When I choose a brand, price is one factor.

So is consistency and brand ethics.

I trust Doterra.

That doesn’t mean every other brand is terrible, but I have found the brand I love.

For me, there is no dark side of Doterra.

I’ll admit I was very sceptical about Essential Oils in general, despite being told over and over to use them.

I used Lavender and Peppermint oil initially to try and help my sons sleep and sinus issues.

It had some effect, often the smell made me feel ill though.

The peppermint oil I had purchased was from the general store, in the medicine section.

While it contained “pure” oil – it also had another ingredients.

This smelt disgusting while diffusing.

Then I Met “Doterra”.

I met a woman at a market stall who explained Essential Oils to me, not just the Doterra brand.

So I purchased Easy Air and and a different brand of oil.

The Easy air won and I was done, no more shopping around for me.

It’s just costing me more money switching brands all the time.

So when I see the cost raised as a dark side Of Doterra – I immediately think back to the $60 of Peppermint & Lavender wasting away in my cupboard.

Occasionally I tip the dodgy brands into the toilet with bicarb, because the toilet is where they belong.

My Personal Favourite Doterra Oils

These are the oils I love and use daily.

There is no dark side of Doterra here, just a new found love for Essential Oils and how they make me feel.

They have helped my sons sinus and sleep issues more than any medication ever prescribed by a doctor.

If you got to this point in my opinion piece, I would like you to take away one thing.

I was educated for free by a wellness advocate at a local market stall, then continually supported by my friend & upline Kat Abianac.

Without them, I wouldn’t know what to do with these oils. That is what you are buying into here, not just a single bottle of oil.

That is what changed things for me. Great products & a great company.

Ice Blue

This is by far my favourite so far. Keep in mind Im Ausralian so trying oils like Copaiba is still on the Bucket List.

I suffer from pelvic pain after a car accident in 1998, the Ice Blue gives me so much relief and isn’t full of chemicals like pharmaceutical creams.

You can try the Ice Blue & Peppermint Roller Recipe HERE

Peppermint

A classic, so of course it’s a favourite. I mix this with my Ice Blue in a roller ball recipe to prolong it’s effect. It works a treat.

It also smells amazing as a cleaner around the home.

Aromatouch

I love the smell of Aromatouch, I regularly use it in the bath after a long day. I’m a mother of three energetic children, so it helps me wind down.

Wild Orange

This Essential Oil makes my house smell amazing. Its such a sweet uplifting smell. I also wear it almost daily along with the occasional dab of peppermint. You can ready more about how I use Wild Orange Essential Oil HERE.

Balance

I really don’t enjoy the smell of Balance compared to other oils, but I can’t deny the effects. Balance has been fantastic for my anxiety, which I suffer from particularly if I am in a social environment.

I like using it in the bath, however it does tingle a little if you use too much.

Easy Air

While I don’t use this on myself, I diffuse it for my son. My son is a post cancer patient and was near hospitalisation last year, I will get to his story soon. The short version – he has facial paralysis and can’t clear out his sinus effectively and this oil has been a godsend. We haven’t used pharma nasal sprays and sinus meds since.

Those are my favourites, pretty basic aren’t they!

While some people love Frankincense & Melissa, I keep things cost practical when it comes to daily use.

I wouldn’t want to end up hating Doterra because of my usage choices….*note the sarcasm*

There is no dark side of Doterra.

How Much Is A 1ml Sample Worth? FREE COST SHEET DOWNLOAD

Beginners Guide To Creating Doterra Samples

For those who have been in Doterra for a short period, I totally understand the concern about the cost of giving away samples.

I understand because I am with you, as a beginner. I’m also a bit of a number cruncher.

The beauty of Doterra is you can create your own samples. Any size, any blend and as interesting as you like.

I’ve seen so many amazing ideas being given at oily get togethers.

From bath salts, to chocolates with oils in them, to blends with cosmetic glitter in them for your teenagers who don’t quite appreciate how “cool” essential oils are – the flexibility with the product makes it so much easier to promote.

The simplicity of the product allows you to make and take samples as small as 1ml.

If your an advocate, you know 1ml can actually go a long way!

It’s a tough call when you are making samples wether to dilute them or not, because you want your customer to experience just how pure these oils are.

Some of my samples are 2ml Diluted, but they come with communication sheets which explain why.

Teaching potential customers how to dilute their oils is an important part of providing the product.

My suggestion is this.

Keep in mind this is just a personal opinion, more for when you are starting out.

I hear too often disgruntled people claiming the company they represented bled them dry.

I disagree with this attitude, figure out your investment strategy. If its only $100 for the first 3 months – so be it.

Stay in control, in any business.

Know what you can spend, don’t go showering your friends with samples of Frankincense just because it’s the “King Of Oils”

ALL of the oils are amazing, show them.

Just an example of a $100 Sample Spend:

$100 Will make you over 75 Lemongrass Samples with 1ml Basic Bottles.

That includes the cost of the bottles.

Doterra Ice Blue Recipe For Roll On Application

This Doterra Ice Blue Recipe is amazing!

This Ice Blue Recipe will give your customers the option to create their own blends.

In your essential oil business you will come across many potential customers, with several different needs.

These needs will range from health, scent preference and the elephant in the room.

The Elephant In The Room?

I’m talking about finances. Something advocates are often worried about talking about.

If your customer raises finances as an issue, don’t ignore them. Give them options.

Creating blends out of your favourite oils can also help them last a bit longer, something we should all take advantage off.

Another point to add is when using ethically & sustainable sourced essential oils, it makes no sense to use more than what is needed.

Ice Blue Roller Blend
Do you need printable recipe books for your customers?

Ice Blue Roller Ball Recipe

Also known as Deep Blue in the United States, this recipe guide was created using the different preferences of over 100 Ice Blue users.

This recipe was created before Copaiba was available, this is now a popular oil to add to Ice Blue for Inflammation and tired/sore joints and muscles.

Make Your Own Ice Blue Recipe Roll On

The basic Ice Blue recipe:

Using a 10ml Roller Ball Bottle

  • 20 Drops of Ice Blue
  • Top off with Fractioned Coconut Oil

More Ice Blue Combinations

These combinations can be played with and mixed. For eg: You may want to try Ice Blue, Lemongrass + Copaiba together.

You will need to adjust the amounts accordingly and keep in mind your skin sensitivity as Ice blue is quite a strong oil.

Please ensure you read the Essential Oil Safety Guide for more information.

Ice Blue + Peppermint Combo

  • 15 drops of Ice Blue
  • 5 Drops of Peppermint
  • Top off with FC Oil in a 10ml Bottle.

Ice Blue + Copaiba Combo

Ice Blue Recipe

Do you actually save money this way?

Firstly, keep in mind your roll on/touch products are a little different to the DIY blends.

I am not trying to discourage you from buying the Roll On or Touch products, this is simply an option you should know about.

If a rollerball bottle distribution is the key point you are looking for – YES YOU WILL SAVE A BUCKET.

Does The Ice Blue Recipe Have To Be In A Roller Ball Bottle?

No. However…..

Making your Ice Blue recipe in a Roller Ball bottle decreases the amount of liquid you dispense, therefore saving money.

You will also minimise the risk of spilling the product or getting it all over your hands.

If you accidentally touch your eye area after applying with the undiluted Doterra bottle, it will burn. Another reason it’s best to handle ice blue with a roller.

Using a Roller Ball allows you to apply the product any time, which is great for travel or back pain during the commute to and from work.

DIY Recipe Cost:

5ml bottle of Ice Blue Wholesale is $42.50AU + FC Oil $16.50 = TOTAL COAST $59

When you add Peppermint Oil, This makes almost 7 x 10ml Rollerball Bottles

Use a Funnel or Pipette when making blends, this helps count the drops and reduce spillage.

Cost Of Doterra Roll on Ice Blue or Ice Blue Touch On a Wholesale Account:

1x Ice Blue Roll On From Doterra (Undiluted): $85.00 or

Ice Blue Touch (Diluted): $62.00

If you have an amazing consultant (hint…hint…me) they will help you arrange what you need to create your DIY Roll ons.

This includes letting you know where to purchase the right bottles and seperate products you need.

Sometimes your Doterra Wellness Advocate will go even further and have an in home consult when your first order arrives to ensure you make them up properly.

You simply pay for the bottles on top of your order (around $1.50 – $2 for a decent Roller Ball Bottle or you can purchase them in bulk for less).

Once you try Ice Blue – pharmacy creams and balms will never compare.

Ice Blue is also available in a cream.

To Buy Ice Blue visit My Doterra Store

To Enrol as a wholesale customer, Visit HERE

SAMPLE BOXES OF ICE BLUE ARE AVAILABLE

If you are making an order from Australia, but would like to access samples of either Ice Blue (Deep Blue) or the On Guard Toothpaste, switch to the US Store once you have logged in.

How To Download Facebook Videos From Private Groups

How To Download Facebook Videos From Private Groups

Let me show you how to download Facebook videos from private groups the easy way!

This is particularly handy for downloading videos which were posted BEFORE the option to save to your camera reel was implemented.

This way is also a great tool for those who are in Virtual Assistant or Social Media management. You can create repurposed content without hassling your client for the original source file.

Why should you download your videos from your private Facebook groups?

Reason 1:

If you have fantastic content posted in your groups you should ALWAYS keep a back up. There have been many cases where groups have just “disappeared” leaving all of your content lost forever.

Reason 2:

This content can be repurposed as Blog posts, Youtube videos and many other great pieces in the future. You can even have your videos transcribed with a service called Transcription Hub or Rev.

Reason 3: Specifically using this method, you can download your videos in the original quality on your desktop. While some PCs allow you to save the file directly from the browser, its often the compressed version.

While some phones also allow you to do this, its then a pain having to transfer the file or bringing it across to your desktop computer through a dropbox. This way – you know it will work every time.

It’s important to note you should never download content that you are not authorised to re-use.

This tool is designed to retrieve your own content in order to repost it elsewhere.

Download Facebook Videos From Private Groups In Simple Steps

For those who download a LOT of FB Videos:

  1. Make sure you are running Chrome
  1. Visit FB DOWNLOADER

  1. Go to your video SOURCE URL, hit the download button on your toolbar
  1. Choose the HD version of your video for best quality
  1. Video will start downloading!
  1. Watch the video if you need further instructions on how to use

For those who only download FB Video occasionally:

  1. Make sure you are running Chrome
  2. Visit FB DOWNLOADER
  3. Input the source URL of your video and download using the browser version

Need help with the Facebook video source file?

How to get your source file on an iMac:

  1. Make sure right click is enabled in your settings
  2. Go to the video you want to download

It’s Important To Recognise Creative Burnout

Occasionally, I suffer from creative burnout.

Once it happens, It happens.

It’s not a situation where I can just shake it off.

There is no point telling me to meditate.

There is no point pushing me into self help podcasts.

There is no point giving me pep talks.

Chocolate doesn’t work, nor does wine.

I know my body, I know my mind.

I know once this happens, I need to take a break.

What is a break? I am a single mum with 3 kids to raise, does that even exist?

When it comes to creative burnout, a “break” doesn’t necessarily mean a rest.

It means a removal of yourself, place yourself somewhere else, do other things.

Feed your mind with new content.

Take Yourself Somewhere Inspiring

The trouble with creative entrepreneur types is we sink so deep into our work, we end up living a portion of our lives at a desk without even realising it! We are creating incredible things, but the reality is the outside world is what feeds us.

When we forget to remove ourselves, creative burnout begins.

If you can, try and manage regular breaks. Trips to local areas which are full of colour, culture or just beauty in general. This could be something as simple as a walk in your local botanical gardens.

If you completely suck at this “regular break” thing like I do, bundle them up. Recognise that all of those small breaks you didn’t take – they equal to a bigger break. Disappear for a couple of days into somewhere amazing.

You Know Yourself Best

We often think we don’t. But thats actual bullshit. Sometimes it takes counselling, coaching, self help to rid ourselves of the denial at play. But at the end of the day recovering from a creative burnout is often a very personal thing and other peoples voices just interrupt the journey to becoming inspired again.

If you know what you need to do, even if its not what others would suggest, just go and do it.

My Answer To Creative Burnout?

Book an Air BnB , Take the kids and runaway. Soak up water views, immerse yourself in a different environment, reduce your time on social media for 2-3 Days.

If accomodation isn’t in your budget, throw a mattress in the car and head to a cheap camping spot. You don’t even have to stay the night! Relax, read a great book.

Due for a holiday? Protect your budget with cheaper accomodation options!

If you haven’t tried Air B’n’B give it a go, If you sign up using this LINK you will get $50 Credit when you book your first trip.

If you are in the Brisbane area I can recommend Turtle Beach Resort, Gold Coast for family holidays – Check out my savings HERE

Then, make sure you share your Air BnB Experience with your friends using your referral code to earn incentives for your next holiday.
