8 Social Media Strategy Trends That Dominated 2018

Social Media Strategy

Social Media Strategy Trends In 2018.

Social Media Strategy is changing after 2018 revealed many changes.

In late 2016 Facebook turned the tables on Snapchat with it’s release of stories to Instagram.

Since then, Instagram’s algorithm changes resemble the same tragic cut to organic reach on Facebook.

With 2018 creeping past us, you can be sure of one thing…

Social Media continues to evolve.

1. AR, VR & User Experiences

The rise of AR & VR experience continues with the iPhone X offering Augemented Reality Experience as an inbuilt feature.

As the tech of the future gains momentum, it’s popularity will eventually see features being incorporated into social media strategy.

The Oculus Go was released with an announcement of the Oculus Quest coming in 2019. These systems are all in one option, making VR accessible to those without expensive gaming systems.

Think VR is for teenagers? This is a common misconception. Environments like AltspaceVR are full of adults discussing entrepreneurship, developing and more.

2. Instagram Story Takeover

The Instagram Storie feature has been the death of Snapchat by comparative standards. While 50 Million users still enjoy the Snapchat platform, Instagram has put a cog in the wheel of Snapchats rising success.

IG Stories is just over 12 months old.

Over 200 million people use the Storie feature each month.

Brands looking to connect with users can take advantage of the “Swipe Up” feature but more importantly, Instagram is now implementing store features and it’s own payment platform.

Marketers know one of their biggest challenges is getting a user to leave the platform in order to make a conversion. This will no longer be necessary with the new changes.

The pending introduction of these features have already been regarded as a “game changer” amid discussions between leading social media strategy providers.

3. Influencer Market – Should You Invest?

Despite social media algorithms strangulating organic reach, Influencer Marketing is still alive and kicking.

Influencer Marketing offers flexible campaigns, including contra deals which a lot of smaller influencers with high engagement are happy to accept.

Influencer Marketing offers a different style of audience connection than traditional advertisement. Utilising an influencer to market your product is also considered as endorsement, which can carry a brands message a long way.

With platforms like Tribe experiencing a huge amount of growth, Influencer marketing is still regarded as a successful social media strategy for both branding and sales.

4. Gen Z Are Becoming Your Customers

Millennials are now the biggest working generation while many Baby Boomers are hitting retirement age.

Gen Z has grown up with new age technology readily available.

They are quick on the pulse of popular culture and trends move faster than ever.

Marketers are starting to market differently in order to appeal to the Gen Z culture now that a good percentage of this audience manages their own finances.

5. Messaging Bots, Paving The Way For AI

Generally speaking a bot is any software that performs an automated task.

With messaging bot platforms like ManyChat, the process of funnelling a customer to a product source or supplying them information is easier.

The applications are becoming smarter, with AI being introduced.

Conversational ChatBots are already being rolled out in the online marketplace.

The real question is, will the AI bots of the future have the potential to automate even more for your business?

My opinion is yes. So start learning the basics now.

6. Live Streaming Isn’t Just A Fad

Live Streaming is a valuable part of a brands social media strategy. More  business owners have utilised the live streaming feature as a regular way to promote their products on Facebook.

Live Streaming is a way for a brand to soften the lines of traditional ads and connect with an audience on a personal level.

7. Twitter Is Dead….However

Twitter has been left for dead….however….

Don’t give up just yet. Keep your toe in the water, especially if you have a brand which aligns well with the Twittersphere.

If Twitter sells and the social media platform does turnaround (I know, it will take some innovative features never done before)….

You will wish you had of at least made an account before the changes. Secure your business names, even if you don’t actively use the service.

8. Facebook Groups & Tight Communities

Facebook Groups enjoyed a massive boost in 2017.

Groups didn’t get completely battered by Facebooks algorithm until early 2018. They still are an easier method to achieve growth than a Facebook Page.

You won’t see many corporate brands jump on the group bandwagon. This is great for the small business owners as groups remain unsaturated by huge players in the game.

If you have great content and value to offer, you can achieve an intense amount of growth using Facebook groups.

Facebook Groups are not over and will still be relative to your 2019 Social Media strategy.

Give your community a group they can’t live without.

What Does All Of This Mean For Internet & Social Media Strategy?

VR, AI….Chat Bots. Algorithm changes…It’s a lot to take in.

You don’t have to do all of it, but you should have a key focus in a couple of areas.

If you look at the big names in social media, you will see a common factor between them.

They were all there on the pulse when the next big thing blew up.

The Brain Is Wired To Be Social!

The Brain Is Wired To Be Social!

Have you ever wondered why yawning causes other people to yawn? Mirror Neurons!

Have you ever wondered why, when someone else laughs, even if you don’t understand the joke – you start laughing too? MIRROR NEURONS!

When you know the intention behind someone’s action, the mirror neuron’s in your brain is activated.

How Does This Help Us In Business?

The mirror neuron’s give us the capacity to imitate other peoples behaviour. When you see somebody doing something, your mirror neurons are firing, allowing you to experience the same action without carrying it out physically. Let your audience feel your experience!

These neuron’s are the brains way of relating to each other and the world. We are WIRED TO BE SOCIAL!

You Have Just Watched Some Emotional Video Content.

How do you feel?

If the person is beaming with excitement, are you excited?

This isn’t as simple of something being funny or sad.

Mirror neurons allow us to experience the FEELING of another persons joy, sadness, anger and more simply by watching.

Theres a place in your brain which allows you to:

Feel other peoples experiences…WOW!

Have you ever been to a store and received exceptional customer service and while the product doesn’t usually excite you, you feel high on life.

This is because the storeperson was so positive, their smile was infectious – using the mirror neurons!

Have you ever watched a persons content online and found yourself smiling along with them, despite the content not being a comedy piece?

This is your mirror neuron’s helping you connect emotionally to that person.

You Have Successfully Connected With Your Audience:

On A Neurological Level…AMAZEBALLS!

I’ll say it again, we are WIRED TO BE SOCIAL! The very core of our existence is designed to connect and engage with each other. This is why social media is such a powerful engine.

Our purpose as humans is to interact with each other on an emotional level and there is plenty of science based evidence to back this up.

Tell a happy story, an inspiring tale, a sad and tragic account of a past event:

Do It With Emotion. Give It Everything You Got!

This is why it’s so important to show up and be authentic. The real stories, the truth of who you are, where you came from and why you strive to achieve certain goals often has a very powerful backstory.

The things than happen over the years shape who we are and can be used for powerful storytelling.

Don’t be afraid to get out there and put your emotions on the frontline because on a neurological level, we are wired to connect and share the raw emotions involved in each experienced told by one another.

How To Promote Yourself In A Group Without Being Annoying AF

How To Promote Yourself In A Group Without Being Annoying AF

So you’ve joined a network marketing company or you have your own company. It might seem like a good idea to join as many groups as possible and drop your business spiel in every single one over a 24 hour period. Business will be booming after that right? Wrong. Dead wrong.

Your posts will be deleted and some of the groups will ban you. Members will be rolling their eyes thinking “not this shit again”….it’s only the 57th post from a Arbonne or “It work’s” rep this week.

The thing is when you get all spammy up in other peoples shit, you do a massive disservice to the product you are so passionate about.

It’s a stupid way to market yourself. If you are in business of the long haul, you need to shake off such a generic and mundane marketing technique.

I know you are not stupid, you are just watching what other people do. The fact you have launched your own business say’s you are an intelligent, confident woman (or man) ready to make your mark. Let me help you.

There was once a time where I would get these “typical” spiels in my inbox, I would spend a few minutes replying with a spiel of my own.

I was met with defensive attitude EVERY TIME. Hmmm, so you like to email me and tell me what I could be doing to create financial freedom – but you don’t want to accept advice in return?

Interesting and not the kind of attitude I would expect from a woman building a small powerhouse of wealth and freedom.

So here goes….

  • Stop the spammy bullshit now. Just stop it.
  • Pick two very large groups.
  • Network like you give a shit
  • Develop sustainable relationships in multiple niche areas

I seem to be extremely time poor of late and I miss group networking. The positive effect of being in a huge group and interacting as much as possible is you end up frequently in the top posts.

People get to know you, they frequently engage with you. You will make friendships that lead to opportunity.

This is how my friendship and working relationship grew with Kat Abianac.

Kat & I often interacted with each others posts in a large group called Like Minded Bitches Drinking Wine.

I have made many friends in this group and had so many opportunities.

I want to make it clear that at no point have I ever advertised my services in that group, yet I’ve had countless emails asking me If I would provide paid services.

Although Kat and I have crossed paths previously, this is what strengthened our communication. We have since been working together on three seperate projects – all successful in the last 6 months.

I have connected with PR’s and other writers who have connections in an industry I would otherwise not be able to get into, this is what networking is about.

Group networking isn’t direct selling. Think of group networking very similar to social media, you have to grow your audience with great content first.

Great networking relationships improve business, open doors and strengthen your knowledge base. You will get far more value interacting than dropping your douchey spiel and leaving.

I have individual affiliate articles converting $100+ each month, the success I owe to having a group networking relationship with the business owners.

They went above and beyond to provide me with what I needed to make my affiliate funnel project a successful one.

I can go on all day about the many open doors I have experienced by not being a typically annoying salesy group member, but I think you get the point.

Did you know I said I would never join an MLM ever again after trying AVON many years ago?

Recently I enrolled in DoTERRA and I bend over backwards to help people strengthen their business model. This is why I’m writing this, because this all stemmed from group networking.

This applies to all areas, wether you are promoting your blog, business or social media. There is a way to be an authentic user, always.

When you get things right, your ship starts sailing and it feels SO DAMN GOOD.

4 Reasons Your Branded Memes & Images Suck

How can I politely tell you that your branded memes and images suck?

I can’t. I promised when I started my blog I wouldn’t beat around the bush.

I’m telling it how it is. Branding your memes with your business name is a catastrophic waste of time.

IF your memes are 100% original content, thats awesome…

While your on it, monetise that shit! Get those memes on coffee cups, tea shirts… DO ALL THE THINGS!

If your memes are just….memes…

You know the ones, taken from google images or Pinterest…

Branding memes will never create referral traffic to your store. If the link isn’t clickable, no-one is clicking it.

The only way for your images to make it through the social media world is if someone shares them.

Images are FAR more likely to be shared by your followers when they are UNBRANDED.

Branding the shit out of a great meme makes it…wait for it… UNFUNNY.

#1 Oh No! Your meme might get stolen.

Memes belong to no man.

The most common reason I read when it comes to image branding is “someone will steal my work”.

Memes…. these are never “your work”.

Unless you are putting a great big watermark on your images, you cannot protect them.

Oh wait, what? you made a completely, original, unique and funny quote?

Thats not a meme, thats a coffee cup slogan and you better own that shit, trademark it and monetise it pronto.

I should clarify, in case you are not detecting my brand of sarcasm.

I am not talking about your personal quotes.

Memes are NOT digital downloads you are selling a high res version of in your Etsy store.

Memes are not pictures of your product that YOU took with text on them.

#2 Brand Names On Memes Scream DESPERATION.

When you schedule a banger of a spicy meme you are trying to connect with your audience on a humorous level right?

With your business name printed on it, the purpose gets a bit lost.

What do you want to give to your audience?

Make them laugh?

Give them something to think about?

Publish content that keeps them coming back?

Are you trying to sell the name of your business to them in one big fat branded meme?

Point 1: Nobody gives a fuck about your product while laughing their ass off at a meme.

Point 2: Nobody gives a fuck about your memes when they are in the middle of buying your product.

You see what Im saying here?

#3 Unbranded images promote sharing. Sharing promotes EVERYTHING.

Even when your “competitor” in business shares your unbranded memes, I truly believe you will be rewarded.

Most online communities are tight within each niche. If one particular business/blogger/brand is well known for their content, it’s because people share it.

If it’s valuable, funny, relatable and has a consistent tone that is fairly unique to you – that is your “branding”, not your actual “brand name”

Branding, in marketing isn’t what you do to a cow.

It is the way you consistently represent your brand so it is valued, enjoyed and remembered.

If it was as easy as popping your business name on a few memes, I would be a billionaire!

#4 Unbranded Memes are a waste of your time.

I’m afraid people are led to believe that placing a brand name on an image adds to the value of the content. I believe it detracts.

Shock horror! Some social media strategy courses are teaching people to pull memes off google and rebrand them.

Fuck. That. For a joke.

I have tested this out of curiosity, it’s an utter waste of time. To put it bluntly, again, nobody gives a shit about your branded memes.

If you are just looking to give your audience laugh, don’t brand it. Just offer the gift of laughter with no strings attached.

Nobody fucking owns Ryan Gosling, so just stop it. Right now.

So You Want Incredible FREE No Attribution Images?

FREE No Attribution images are available in many spaces on the internet.

But how do you find images which are soul touching, mesmerising? Pictures that actually compliment your social media. Using images from a Google search is not worth the risk. I Repeat… RISK!

Years ago a friend of mine received a demand for a large sum of money for using a picture owned by Getty Images. This is when I realised nobody is too small or under the radar to get busted for copyright. Thankfully there are good people who serve the digital community by donating imagery for your needs.

No Attribution means you do not have to give credit. However, I still prefer to credit my images. I see it as a thanks and also at times, a networking tool. Who doesn’t need a photographer in their circle? Give your artist credit and they may even share your post.

Incredible FREE No Attribution Images

The images here are free download, no attribution required. This is a special little corner of the internet that has my heart. The Unsplashed platform is what prompted me to write this article. The images here will save you time and time again when you have a dry pool on content.

Other Image Platforms – Some Will Require Attribution On Artists Request

All contents are released under Creative Commons CC0, which makes them safe to use without asking for permission or giving credit to the artist. Pixabay has a huge variety and is particularly great for raw images such as plants, vegetables, herbs and wellness ingredients.

If you are looking for a variation of FREE images for DoTERRA, some of these have been provided by request. You can download an album full of basic graphics and templates HERE. Please return the thanks by following my page.

Don’t forget the little guy! Unique style & Flair. Ryan offers a select amount of photos available for no-attribution and no copyright.

Pexels has a very wide range of pictures which are available for personal and commercial use. You can modify, copy and distribute the photos for free.

A vast array of modern, colourful photographs. Many natural photos including cityscapes & nature.

Splitshire has a predominatly darker, street feel to the photos on offer. SplitShire has over 2.000,000 downloads on offer. You can freely download and use for personal an commercial purposes.

SplitShire Black Wedding Image

Although there are more services out there, these are my favourite. They are reliable and offer different styles of pictures. Pixabay, Pexels and some of the others also offer video loops. The Pixabay loops are my go to for short video content marketing production.

The next step after collecting your free images is where to edit them? If you don’t have the skills for photoshop and just need something for basic edits, Canva is your best option. More on that soon.

The Easy Way To Create A Consistent Instagram Aesthetic

The Easy Way To Create A Consistent Instagram Aesthetic

Creating a consistent Instagram Aesthetic isn’t hard. Within a few basic steps, you can have your feed looking unique to your brand.

Once your decisions around aesthetic and branding are made – they will be easy to stick to. You can then put your focus where it needs to be – creating the actual content.

New Features Have Changed The Game For Instagram

Let’s have a look at what Instagram was like before stories and IG Live features were introduced.

There would be pictures you wanted to show your audience, but sticking to a curated feed guideline – you would continually be holding back.

You couldn’t post spur of the moment pictures or random thoughts of the day, because it would mess up your feed. You can now break through the superficial barrier and give people more!

Feature Your Best Content

Your image gallery is the “welcome mat” for people who visit. Think of your image feed as your content hall of fame.

You want to blow peoples minds when they arrive, then connect with them through stories so they stay. You have probably heard the hardships around the Instagram Algorithm, be a great player on the field and it won’t matter.

Do Bloggers & Influencers Need To Curate?

Many of us with blogger profiles – including myself – avoid curating a feed. It can be difficult to tell whether putting the work into a strong aesthetic will pay off. For any brand selling a product, I strongly recommend it.

For influencers & bloggers, your social accounts will still benefit from the same style, but it isn’t just images that do the work. You can take a lot from this E-book, or just a little.

Consistency isn’t always 100% imagery based.

It’s important to remember consistency isn’t always imagery based. So while I’m giving you the basic tips you need to create a consistent and aesthetically pleasing feed, it is up to you to empower and entertain your audience.

Instagram’s new features mean you can utilise several different strategies to connect with your followers, it’s no longer riding entirely on that one picture you post each day (or 2…3)

Don’t worry, I won’t send you spam or salesy messages.

The only time I will email you is if I have anything super valuable to offer!
