Currumbin Creek – Winders Park Side

The Best Day Out At Currumbin Creek

Currumbin Creek is one of the best family swimming spots in the Gold Coast region.

Its a crazy busy destination, but there are some hints and tips to avoid chaos, especially during the holiday period.

Parking at Currumbin Creek

Everybody wants a spot right on the river’s edge. Chances are slim you will actually get one. During the school holidays, parking is intense. We generally arrive at around 7 am, and the car parks are almost full.

People park and stay for hours, so idling while you wait for someone to leave may not work. Instead, pack your things knowing you may have to walk a little.

There are small sections of parking that you won’t see on the map, like this one…

There is a small section of parking for around 8 cars here that often goes unnoticed.

Pack Beach Blankets

Currumbin Creeks sand is clean, but there is a lot of debris from trees along the shore.

If you want to sit in the shade, you will need a beach blanket or large towels.

On the upside, they are the low hanging branches to hang any wet clothing or towels on to dry.

Perfect Family Swimming

The Currumbin lake is perfect for family swimming, you can even bring the dog. The waters are calm, with the occasional baby waves created from boats and jet skis.

The closer to the ocean mouth, the cleaner the water looks, with a beautiful blue reflection that matches the sky.

Pack Plenty Of Food & Water

The food outlets close by are limited. Major takeaway stores are all within a 2-minute drive.

If you are after coffee, fish & chips or a cafe, these are available on thrower drive, a few minutes walk from Winder Park.
