King Arthur Was Underrated. Don’t Even @ Me.

Perusing my Netflix recommendations for far too long. I finally decide on King Arthur.

Truth be told, I probably wouldn’t have watched it all but for one reason. I saw an old segment on the Graham Norton Show which piqued my interest in the film.

Anyway, enough Smalltalk.

WHY was this movie trashed so hard?  Ya’ll are tripping!!!

First of all, let’s talk Charlie Hunnam.

Charlie Hunnam: Arthur Starts as a fresh faced larrikin (C) Warner Bros

He made a fantastic Arthur. His character was charming, slightly egotistic and powerful.

Charlie Hunnam has a young face, He can easily pull off a character that weathers over time. He starts off as a bit of a hopeless cause, making reckless decisions.

Once he relives his past, and discovers who he really is. Arthur finds his purpose. Hunnam delivers a convincing performance.

Charlie Hunnam: The Trauma Etched In Arthurs Face (C) Warner Bros

Jude Law made a fantastic villain – which is no surprise. He’s been nailing these unlikeable characters for a while now.

This is a family movie, with a PG 13+ Rating. I’m not sure what critics were after, but you weren’t going to see decapitated heads flying across the screen. I would compare it to Maleficent as far as the level of dark violence.

This movie got an absolute trashing from critics, but whoever really cares what they think?

The only flaw in this movie is that we don’t see Merlin. I don’t understand the decision around that. Perhaps because the movie is hyperfocused on King Arthurs life before he draws the sword from the stone.

Merlin may have overshadowed this.

I still feel like it was a missed opportunity. The iconic Wizard would have been a powerful addition to the movie. One can only hope its being saved for a sequel.

King Arthur was undeniably entertaining. The story moves quickly and leaves minimal time to twiddle your fingers. It’s very rare that my ADD brain locks into a movie without wandering off somewhere else.

King Arthur is available on Netflix or Purchase on DVD.
