4 Sunscreen, Skin Cancer and Sun Safe Tips

A list of Sun Safe Tips as a great reminder of how to protect yourself and reduce the ricks of skin cancer.

In a country where UV rays trump our deadly fauna and larrikin locals it’s become crucial to not only slip, slop and slap but saddle up with a myriad of accessories for your beach trips. Cocopani was developed with this in mind, especially when two in three Australians will be diagnosed with skin cancer by the time they are 70.

Follow these simple tips to lead a more sun-safe lifestyle. Minus the aloe vera rub and skin-peeling.

1. Wear sunscreen – We hear our mum’s moan about it on the way to and from the beach when we’re running outside with our friends and at school. Keep it on and always reapply if swimming or sweating.

2. Keep your sunglasses on hand – The right pair of glasses will offer total UV protection and can make a real difference in the Australia glare. Find an option that allows you feel cool, look cool and protects your eyes too.

Sunglasses should block almost all of the of the sun’s UV rays. Check the labelling before purchasing. Sunglasses with EPF values of 9 and 10 transmit almost no ultraviolet radiation.

3. Check yourself regularly – You know what your body looks like with every freckle and pimple you have. So keep an eye out for any new ones, these may need to get checked out – too much regular sun creates melanomas that could be dangerous. Visit your doctor or local skin check clinic to have all of your spots assessed and documented.

4. Invest in some sturdy beach accessories – I once spent an entire Sydney afternoon hunting for the perfect beach umbrella and when I thought I found it, it broke an hour later.

There is nothing quite like the frustration of losing something just after you buy it so, in order to combat this, invest in a proper beach umbrella. You need something strong yet lightweight that you can pull out at the beach or in the garden.

With fair skin and a penchant for burning, I understand just how difficult it is to find the best products for your skin type. These products can ensure you don’t spend days in pain just for wanting to embrace the Great Outdoors.

Now there’s no way you can be mistaken for a red-hot lobster on the beach, opt for Ms Poppins and float through summer with your ever-faithful beach umbrella.
