Amy Bleuel, Project Semi Colon Founder Has Died.
Project Semicolon Founder, Amy Bleuel wanted to honour her father whom she lost to suicide when the movement began in mid-2013. Since then the project has gained global notoriety and helped thousands through raising awareness and promoting togetherness.
Amy Bleuel died by suicide. This young woman dedicated her life to raising awareness and giving hope to those who battle with mental health issues across the globe. I wanted to take the time out to write about this because her project has spoken to so many people.
It’s very clear Amy had the goal of campaigning for lower suicide rates and fighting the stigma of mental health. When a person dies by suicide the media have an obligation to report this with a great duty of care and ensure that readers know they are supported.

Project Semi Colon is well known for its community of supporters who have used a variety of ways to spread the meaning behind the Semi Colon, many have used the symbol as a tattoo. Every person has their own individual story behind the Semi-Colon.
Project Semicolon is a global non-profit movement which hopes to serve as an inspiration and guides people through channels and encourages those suffering to reach out for help.
In Australia, we are starting to see communities form with a similar nature. An example is the 180 Movement, encouraging people to group together and make a change in the way that we support and speak about mental health, and addiction.

I had heard she died. I didn’t realise it was through suicide. We do need to talk about mental health more and the powers that be need to invest in it too. There are so many people out there that need more help than they are getting.
I was so sad when I heard this news, its an amazing project that has raised fantastic awareness the world over – I only hope her sad passing will encourage those in a similar situation to reach out for help rather than succumbing to their demons as she did. It really is so awful that she died of the very thing she worked so hard against.
