How To Sell Your Stuff On Facebook

De-cluttering but don’t have enough items for a garage sale?

Sell your stuff on Facebook Marketplace.

I have been flipping items for profit on Facebook for over 10 years. It’s a fantastic way to make some money back on items, or resell items you have picked up for dirt cheap at local garage sales or recycle centers.

Facebook Groups have been used for years to sell items online.

Then along came FACEBOOK MARKETPLACE!

Facebook Marketplace has made most selling groups redundant. Groups once bustling with hundreds of people selling their items are now a few tumbleweeds and items that belong in the tip.

Selling On Facebook Marketplace

Theres a few tips I have for Facebook Marketplace. It can be very time consuming and frustrating, but there are some things you can do to help.

TIPS FOR LISTING YOUR ITEMS ON FACEBOOK

Uploading Photos

  • Clean your items before taking pictures
  • Take photos in a well-lit room
  • Upload more than one photo

Photos are the only visual evidence that an item is in good condition. To get the best price for your item, its important for the presentation to be clean in a well lit room.

Listing Description

In the first line of your description, add your pick up location.

The amount of people who message “Where are you located” because they are too lazy to read the entire listing is a common issue on FB Marketplace.

Start with the pick up location, then the description of the item. This will save you time and frustration.

Include a reasonable amount of detail. If the item has faults, be honest about this.

If your item is heavy, make sure you detail if the buyer will need two people to pick up – or if you are willing/not willing to help during pick up (some people have back problems or are elderly, it’s understandable).

Price Point

  • Look at what others are selling for
  • Check prices on Ebay

You will see items for sale on Facebook where a seller has simply knocked off some of the original recommended retail price.

If you have a 5 year old GoPro for sale, taking $100 off the price you paid for it new, is not going to be an accurate sale price.

The same goes for pricing too low. I understand sometimes you may want to just get rid of an item quickly. In busy areas, you may be bombarded with messages if you price an item too low.

Taking great pictures and having a decent product description will get you a better price. If your item is dirty or in a dirty/cluttered room, people may assume the item isnt well looked after.

Successful Facebook Selling Tips

To sell your items quickly and succesfully its important to think about the presentation and quality of your listings.

  • Clear Photos
  • Great presentation
  • Clean items
  • Clear description,Price & Pick Up Location
  • Pick Up Time Frame (optional)
  • Are you negotiable on price? (optional)

Keeping Your Facebook Listings Organised

When your items are sold, mark them as sold or delete them.
If you are waiting for a cuyer to pick up, switch the listing to pending so you do not continue to get messages.

Selling Multiple Items Under $10

Selling multiple items can be time consuming if you are listing them all separately.

If you have several items in the same category, list them together with seperate prices.

You can use a collage app for the default/primary image.

Post individual photos of your items as the additional photos.

In your description, detail each item and the price.

This also maximizes the chance of a buyer purchasing multiple items from you.

Dealing With Pick Ups & Other Facebook Selling Tips

  • Consider when you are available for pick up before you list
  • Have your pick up address and details saved in your notepad so you can PM your buyers quickly.
  • Once you have photographed and listed your items bag and label them so they are ready for pick up
  • When you message your buyer include the total amount owing so there’s no confusion on pick up.
  • Be polite to your buyers even if they have stupid questions.
