This year, I’m changing my approach on social media. While I still support the fight against childhood cancer and the need for better treatments, I can no longer promote funding that benefits corporations profiting off our struggles.
Supporting the research is crucial, however, I think a lens needs to be put over the support that families need DURING cancer treatment.
I also believe in the fight for a cure and better treatment options alongside chemotherapy. We should prioritize organic meals and better dietary health for children in hospitals. Our bodies need care to fight cancer effectively.
So, this year, I challenge you to split your donation. Continue supporting cancer treatment, but also donate to charities that help families financially. For example, during my son’s treatment, we faced a three-hour trip to the hospital. The costs of travel and potential relocation are burdens many families can’t afford.
Imagine having to choose between your job and being by your child’s side. Cancer treatment shouldn’t mean financial ruin. We need to support families so they can focus on their child’s recovery.
This September, let’s recognize the financial devastation caused by childhood cancer. Even a small gesture, like donating a petrol voucher to a local children’s hospital, can make a significant difference. Let’s help families directly and ease their financial burden.
There are a couple of organisations I will be donating to, which are not solely for cancer research:
