Mt Coo-tha Botanical Gardens is an incredible experience. Founded in 1970 and officially opened in 1976, the 56-hectare gardens open daily. 

The botanical gardens feature themed sections. Some of these include:

  • Fragrant garden
  • Bamboo grove
  • Fern House
  • Arid zone
  • Japanese Gardens
  • Waterfalls
  • Tropical dome

The Mt Coo-tha Botanical Gardens offers a rich learning experience for children who are undertaking geographical studies. The Botanical Gardens offer excursion based activities. Bookings can be made through the Lessons In The Garden team.

When entering the Tropical Dome, you can feel the intense humid conditions these plants thrive in.

The arid zone is full of drought hardy plantation. Down by the lagoon, different types of Cactus, grass plants and succulents are found.

The botanical gardens have some very interesting trees and plants.

The Botanical Gardens are huge, if you plan on doing the entire area by foot, you will need a couple of hours minimum.

We spent around 1.5 hours walking through the different areas, yet we still missed quite a lot of the themed sections.

The Botanical Gardens also host the Sunset Cinema, which is an outdoor movie experience. The Cinema is a seasonal event, tickets & dates can be found HERE.

Mt Coo-tha lookout is a popular tourist destination in Brisbane. It is a short drive up the mountain from the Botanical gardens. The cafe at the lookout serves Food, Coffee and Ice Cream.
