We travelled out to Dingo Beach on our second day in Airlie Beach.
Quite easily one most breathtaking locations in the Whitsunday Region.
35 minutes out of Airlie, this secluded North Queensland hideaway is a hidden beauty.
The 51km drive out is nothing but livestock paddocks with a few farmhouses in between.
There are some fruit stalls on the way, so bring some loose change.
It was so quiet, all you could hear were some gentle waves crashing against the shoreline.
What To Expect
Parking is along the beach area, with some trees available for shade. You do not require a 4wd, there are some bumpy areas due to tree root systems.
The esplanade has a small playground, picnic bench seating & toilets.
Swimming at Dingo Beach
Like all beaches in the area, even with a stinger net, you swim at your own risk.
We tend to be cautious when we are on holiday, so chose not to swim as it was November, even a blue bottle sting would ruin the day.
We noted that nobody else was in the swimming enclosure on a 32-degree day, so took that as a possible sign that perhaps it’s not even something the locals do often.
Walking & Running
The sand is very soft on Dingo Beach and there are a lot of shells. It would make for a bumpy run.
We are traveling from Brisbane to Cairns, This stretch of white sand and pristine blue ocean is the most beautiful walk I have experienced so far.
Having Lunch
If you are bringing packed lunch, there are picnic benches available right on the water’s edge. If you prefer to eat out, Dingo Beach Pub has an outdoor eating area that faces the water.
The corner store has coffee, bread, milk, and everything you would expect from a small town convenience store.
Accommodation
Dingo beach has holiday homes available on Air BnB. There are more options around the corner at Hydeaway Bay. There isn’t a lot to do at Dingo Beach other than appreciating the ocean views.
If you prefer a secluded holiday full of rest, with little to no noise – this is the perfect location.
If you are working while traveling and require 4g reception, I would recommend staying closer or in Airlie beach. We did pick up some reception with Telstra, but not enough that I would risk relying on it.
